Essay Week 13

A Grimm Tale

I did the Grimm Tales Hunt unit for this week. This was a great unit because it had some stories that most readers would be familiar with and it also had some other stories that readers would not have heard of before. The version by Hunt was also a strong version because it had all the elements that a reader would have expected a Grimm story to have, Hunt did a great job of capturing the themes but also the feel of the stories (not sure if that makes sense). The pictures throughout the stories were also new to me, so I found them to be another interesting part of the Unit. This unit has something for everyone and the best thing about it is that I had fun reading these to my two little nieces over Skype so it was fun to bring these stories to a new generation.

  1. Hi Joe! I'm sure there is more to say here... I am especially curious which stories your nieces liked and what they thought of them! I was totally into fairy tales when I was little... but that was back in the day when books were about the only entertainment choice: not the way kids now can watch their favorite movies and shows basically whenever they want. Would I have been such a book-reader if I were a kid today? I wonder about that a lot. :-)
